Rather than relying on so-called \u2018slash commands\u2019 \u2014 like <strong>\/trello add Taco Drone Delivery<\/strong> \u2014 and then sending subsequent messages to assign values to the metadata of that task, third party apps can be configured to present a UI much more like that in a native app, including buttons that can be pressed to assign values.Here\u2019s a animated gif for the new Trello integration with message buttons:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/ift.tt\/28XEK9x\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-950263\" src=\"http:\/\/ift.tt\/28XEK9x\" alt=\"1-rRxuVVkY9eM_iOMOvUMFGg\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Note that the buttons can cascade, as when the user selects \u2018due date\u2019 and then various options for the due date are presented.\u00a0Also note that \u2018attach conversation\u2019 will attach a link to the Trello card pointing back to the chat context where the task was created.<\/p>\n<p>This is a serious advance for Slack integration, and specifically, the cognitive dissonance problem with a \/slash command-style integration like the one with Trello. I wrote about this recently in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ift.tt\/28QB8qF\">Slack \u2018Spots\u2019, not just Bots<\/a>, where I suggested that Slack was probably working on something like this.
