The service will be live in parts Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, and Sacramento, and residents of those cities who are interested in getting Verizon 5G beamed into their home can go to FirstOn5G.com starting September 13th to see if service will be offered in their area and sign up.

Verizon says that 5G home broadband customers can expect typical speeds of around 300Mbps. Depending on location, peak speeds could reach nearly 1Gbps.

Pricing for Verizon 5G home broadband will be $50 per month for Verizon Wireless customers with a smartphone plan, while non-Verizon Wierless customers will pay $70 per month. Those prices include taxes and fees, and the service does not require an annual contract.

Customers who sign up early will get free installation and equipment as well as their first three months of service for free. The freebies don’t stop there, though, as Verizon is also giving early 5G adopters three free months of YouTube TV as well as their choice of a free Chromecast or Apple TV.

One other detail worth mentioning is that this is not Verizon’s mobile 5G service that you’ll use with smartphones, which is expected to launch in 2019. This launch is still a big deal, though, because we’re finally starting to see 5G service become available to consumers. It’ll be exciting to see how it performs and if it can become a good replacement for more traditional home broadband like cable or fiber.

via Android and Me September 11, 2018 at 08:42PM After teasing the first cities that’ll get its 5G home broadband service, Verizon today revealed when it’s going to flip its 5G switch.
